Richlyn McArthur
Richlyn is an artist and musician who knew from the beginning that the arts would rule her life. Born in 1952, she started piano lessons at 4 and she kept crayons in every pocket possible. From there it’s been one artistic expression after another. She holds a Bachelors of Art in art from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. And a Masters Fine Art in ceramics from Wichita State University. She taught ceramics, weaving and drawing at Adrian College in Michigan. After marrying she moved to a ranch near Darby, Montana and started family life with Thomas and her 2 children. In only a few years there was a move to Taos, New Mexico so that there was more skiing for growing children and Thomas. Richlyn found this perfect so that she could have even more artist fun with watercolor landscape painting! Also she learned about Mariachi music and was soon performing Mariachi style fiddle with Mariachi Rio Grande. (and teaching Mariachi fiddle at the Taos High School) She also dug out her loom to weave at this time!
in 2002 Santa Fe Schools asked Richlyn to start a Mariachi program at Capital High School. With her own children nearly grown, she moved to Santa Fe with looms in tow. 2013-14 she found fiber arts calling very loudly. Handwoven Originals was there and walking into this beautiful shop was totally inspirational. Richlyn finally feels like she’s found her home here in Santa Fe with Handwoven Originals.
